The factory was established in 1929 and with current production taking place in the original factory site, they have are renowned for their refined expertise of seam free 360 knitting techniques. Seam-free whole garment knitting means United’s Scottish knitwear collection is knitted "in the round" flatbed tubular method, which produces a garment without bulky side seams and reduces cast offs from the machines. There is an environmental benefit to this type of construction, as less cast offs equals zero to minimal waste.
The collection is inspired and pays homage to the local landscapes and culture of the North-East and Northern Isles of Scotland. For this collection, United showcases the region's natural fibres with the finest Scottish and Italian yarns while utilizing the highest quality techniques. All the sweaters feature an artisan teasel brushing technique, which lifts and pulls the fibres for a unique finish and produces a cozy shaggy brush effect.
All the knitwear is made with care in Scotland and the yarns are carefully sourced according to their quality and sustainability standards. There is extreme care about the environment and the ethical sourcing of our raw materials.
